The Nightingale Gallery: Eastern Oregon University
The Nightingale Gallery of Eastern Oregon University is pleased to present Environs a group exhibition featuring a collection of works that explore the many environments in which we live, their effect on us and ours on them. The exhibit presents a selection of works by nine artists: Patty Arnold, Peet Cocke, David Drake, Jill Fitterer, David Linneweh, Nicole Maury, Susan Murrell, Kristin Tollefson, and Betty Vera.

Yup'ik Native Alaskan Spirit Masks
the work Phillip Charette, sculptor
Join ArtsEast on this months artwalk to view the sculptural works of Phillip Charette. An Alaskan native and a member of the Yupiit Nation in Southwestern Alaska, Phillip Charette currently lives and works in Baker City, OR. A mixed media artist, Phillip employs a hands-on investigative and exploratory approach to his work. His works are highly symbolic and contains elements of traditional Yup'ik spirituality, cosmology, and power. He utilizes numerous materials, including clay, wood, driftwood, glass beads, metal, stone, feathers, porcelain, paint and other materials. Phillip's masks are made with clay, stained to look like wood rather than taking wood and staining it with clay. Most of his masks are low, smoke, and Raku fired in a home-made kiln.

The Potter's House
Emma Simone Wilcox of La Grande would like to invite you to join her at the Potter's House for the third Thursday Art Walk.Her grandmother, Daphne Whitney (Mimi) and her hreat aunte Lynda Tofflemire will be presenting their stain glass work.
Daphne has been working in stain glass for the last nine years. She also dabbles in watercolors. In 2005 Lynda joined Daphne in a stain glass class and found her life passion blossom. Her mixture of lead and solder and dimensional pieces have added to traditional stain glass. Custom order work has been on display at the Jennifer Lake Gallery in Sisters Oregon. She also takes commission work for private parties.
They share a glass studio in Salem where their "Sister Act" keeps them off the streets. Emma will show a couple of pieces in her private collection. Hope to see you there.
Bob will also be doing his monthly Raku firing demonstrations at 5:30 and 7:00 pm we at the Potter's House look forward to the chance to host you in our gallery.
Union County Art and Culture Center
Union County Art and Culture Center, 1006 Penn. Avenue, will be participating in the October 15, Third Thursday Art Walk from 5:00 - 8:00pm. The gallery features art submitted by over twenty artists for the annual Grande Gala, held September 19th.

The Mitre's Touch Gallery, 1414 Adams Avenue, is pleased to debut pen and ink artist Gregory Kelly of La Grande. Gregory is originally from Missouri and has been working for the past 10 years as a freelance commercial artist. His work encompasses a broad scope of themes and applications from portraits, landscapes and entertainment animation to educational, business and informational graphics. You're invited to enjoy refreshments with us, meet Gregory and view a fascinating display of original pieces in pen, ink, colored pencil and markers. Open for your enjoyment from 5 to 8 p.m.
Blue Turtle Gallery
Fused and slumped glass is the chosen medium of the featured artists at the Blue Turtle Gallery for the month of October. Kevin and Mary Sue Elliott are both glass artists who make beautiful fused glass pieces.
They became interested in creating glass art while living in California. Mary Sue took classes in glass fusing at the local college. Her interest and involvement in glass fusing peaked Kevin's interest after they moved to Cove Kevin's first projects were cherry plates for the Cove Cherry Fair. Mary Sue is motivated by the complexity of nature, Kevin likes simpler geometrical designs, both are inspired by Native American art. It is a good partnership in which ideas and techniques are shared.
Mary Sue and Kevin moved to Cove when California became too crowded for them and they wanted to have a slower pace of life. They had passed through Cove on a trip and decided it was the place for them. Mary Sue is an emergency room nurse at St. Elizabeth's hospital in Baker City, Kevin is a ferrier and both are talented glass artists.
Be sure to come by the Blue Turtle Gallery on Thursday, October 15 from 5pm to 8pm to enjoy refreshments and the spectacular glass art of Mary Sue and Kevin Elliott.

Back to Nature Gallery welcomes you to view the rotating exhibit of original oil paintings, watercolor florals, and mixed media work by artist Linda Elliott. Linda's work portray's her awe-inspired fascination with animals and plants that began in her childhood. Her paintings are approached with an appreciation of the aesthetics of the animals and their environment. The artist's realistic style with warm earthy colors and rich texture creates glowing representations of life.
Handmade jewelry by the artist featuring wire work and natural stones is also exhibited. Natural stones have healing energy to bring to each person who wears them.
Find Back to Nature at 1617 Fourth Street, across from the Methodist Church. Regualr hours are 9:30-1:30, Mon, Wed, Fri, and by appointment, 962-0437.
